CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Creative Movement - Our Creative Movement dance program is for children ages three to five. It is designed to focus on their large muscle development, as well as sequencing, and social skills, and mostly to encourage their natural sense of joy in movement and music.  Pink ballet shoes are required.

Million Dollar Babies- This is the next step up from Creative Movement.  This class is for children ages three to five.  It is an intermediate class that focuses heavily on dance technique in the areas of tap, jazz and ballet.  It is required that Creative Movement is taken before enrolling in this class.  All three types of shoes are required including black tap shoes, black jazz shoes or black jazz sneakers & pink ballet shoes.

Jazz – At Jill’s Dance Studio we offer Jazz dance classes for ages five through eighteen. Our program focuses on teaching a strong base that can be added to as the student advances. In addition to the strong base, we offer within the same class many different styles of Jazz. Some of the styles that are studied include Hip-Hop, Modern Jazz, and Lyrical among others. Jazz is a great class for increasing flexibility and building memory skills. The Jazz class includes techniques and choreography in the area of jazz dance.  Black jazz shoes or black jazz sneakers are required.

Ballet – In this class students develop grace, musicality, and elegant lines as they learn ballet technique and terminology. We draw from traditional and contemporary methodologies focusing on anatomically sound principals and the joy of moving. This class provides a strong foundation for continued training in ballet and other forms of dance.  Classes are offered for ages five through eighteen.  Pink ballet shoes are required.

Cheer/ Beginning Cheer – The Cheer class teaches arm movements, jumps, chants, stunts and choreography.  Upper level classes will do tumbling.  Cheer is also great for building lasting friendships and learning how to work together as a team.  Classes are offered for ages three through ten.  Tennis shoes are required.

Musical Theatre – Musical Theatre is a singing and dancing class.  Learn techniques of musical theatre in this class as well as choreography.  This class is for ages seven through sixteen.   Black jazz shoes or black jazz sneakers are required.

Dance Team – There will be auditions for the both dance teams in September.  The Dance teams will perform at different events within the community.  Students will also be expected to do volunteer work and extra fundraisers for performing costumes.  Black jazz sneakers are required.

This is a basic layout for class placement. Placement is always at the discretion of our instructors.  Please call the studio for any placement questions.*It should also be noted that dancers at all levels within these different age groups will be challenged in these classes.  Since the studio is new we must first figure out what levels our dancers are at in order to place them in the proper classes.
